A volatile situation arose after some Assam based contractors and villagers attempting to forcibly build a road on wet rice cultivation (WRC) land in Hime village.

The road had been sanctioned under the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC).

Representatives of the MAC and villagers of Hime and Gnopi in Kangku circle held a meeting at Saamguria village in Gogamukh circle of Dhemaji district on Thursday to diffuse the tension.

Both sides reportedly stressed on restoring peace and communal harmony along the boundary.

Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju also appealed to the people of both the states residing along the boundary to maintain peace and resolve the issue amicably.

Rijiju also appealed to the media not to flare up the issue without authentic information.

It was on May 19 last when an Assam-based construction company illegally carried out construction work by dumping sand on wet-rice cultivation (WRC) land that belongs to 10 households inside Arunachal territory.

However, following the intervention of the district administrations of Assam and Arunachal, both sides had agreed to maintain status quo on their respective sides.
