Department of Education, Tezpur University in collaboration with Teaching Learning Centre (TLC), Tezpur University on Friday inaugurated the 15 days refresher course on Teacher Education (Interdisciplinary).
Dr Nil Ratan Roy, Head, Department of Education and Prof D K Bhattacharjya, dean, Academic Affairs inaugurated the programme.

The refresher course that started from September 6 will continue till September 20 next.
Faculty members from various colleges and universities of Assam as well as others states of the country such as- Aruanchal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh have joined the course.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Prof Mihir Kanti Choudhari, former vice chancellor of Tezpur University and presently the advisor of Higher Education, Government of Assam explained various aspects of the New Draft National Education Policy (NEP) 2019 of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Discussing on various sections of NEP, 2019 such as School Education which includes the age between (0-18 years), Prof Choudhari emphasized that this period gives the foundation for higher education.
He also said that the present curriculum only give concepts, however, students to be exposed to all the disciplines and curriculum should be student centric.
It is also highlighted that Private and Public Schools should not be distinguished on the basis of any criteria rather government will give fund to both.
This also applies for higher education.
Prof Choudhari also mentioned that teachers in higher education should have ethics in general and related to academics.
He also opined that there should be orientation/ refresher course for all the sectors such as-schools, colleges, university teachers, principal, registrars and also to VCs.
“In higher education out of eight million graduates only six million or more than that are not capable for employment”, he said.
He explained the three types of higher education as suggested in NEP, 2019, i e Type I category of institutions will give importance on research, Type II category will give importance on teaching, Type III category will be colleges, which will not be affiliated anymore and will be autonomous.
Prof P K Das, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Biren Das, Registrar, Prof. D.C Baruah, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Prof. A.K. Mukherjee, former Dean, Research & Development, Heads of different departments of the University and faculty members of Dept. of Education and others departments were also present on the occasion.
