With the rise in COVID cases in India, the government has decided to suspend biometric attendance of government officials and employees. 

This was informed by union minister Jitendra Singh on Monday. 

“In view of the rise in COVID cases, biometric attendance for government officials and employees is being suspended with immediate effect, till further orders,” union minister Jitendra Singh said. 

However, all employees would be required to mark their attendance in a register, which would be maintained manually.

“This decision has been taken in the interest of safety and health of the government employees,” union minister Jitendra Singh further said. 

Notably, India on Monday reported a sharp surge in its daily COVID-19 cases.  

A total of 33,750 new COVID cases were logged on Monday. 

175 fresh Omicron cases were also reported in a day, taking the total caseload to 1700.
