The Aizawl district court on Tuesday directed the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the lone women NGO in Mizoram and its office-bearers not to conduct any activity in the name of the NGO.

According sources, the court issued the directive following a complaint lodged against the MHIP, General Headquarters that the office-bearers of the NGO, whose term of office expired in April, 2019, illegally distributed money to other NGOs.

A senior civil judge said, “The MHIP General Headquarters should be placed under suspension until proper election is conducted and new office-bearers are elected.”

The MHIP has been directed to submit all of its official seals to the court.

The election for a new committee of MHIP General Headquarters (2019-2022) was scheduled to be held on April 17, 2019 but it was postponed due to alleged irregularities on the part of the existing committee of the MHIP General Headquarters.

As a result, the matter reached the floor of the court.

The lone woman NGO in Mizoram, MHIP, was established on July 6, 1974 and is registered under Registration No. 5 of 1977, Society Act 1860 (Act XXI of 1960).

The organization is sub-divided into seven sub-headquarters.

These sub-headquarters are further divided into 16 blocks and 700 branches.
