The Assam Congress on Thursday announced that it will initiate a judicial inquiry into the ‘killing’ of journalist Parag Bhuyan if it is voted to power. 

Announcing this, Congress Lok Sabha MP Abdul Khaleque said that the Assam Congress do not trust the findings of the probe initiated by the ruling BJP-led Government in the State. 

“The Assam Congress will initiate a high-level judicial inquiry by a sitting judge into the death of journalist Parah Bhuyan,” Congress MP Abdul Khaleque said. 

“We don’t trust the findings of the probe initiated by this (BJP) Government,” Khaleque added. 

Parag Bhuyan was a senior rural journalist from Tinsukia district in Assam. 

Parag Bhuyan died after he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle under “mysterious circumstances” near his house at Kakopathar. 

Parag Bhuyan was working for a private television news channel in Assam.

MP Abdul Khaleque informed that the Assam Congress in the coming days will announce a slew of schemes for the journalist fraternity, which the party will implement if voted to power.  

“We care for our friends in the media,” Khaleque said. 

Further hitting out at the BJP Government in Assam, Lok Sabha MP Abdul Khaleque said that the time of the BJP in power will get over after the elections. 

“Days of the BJP are over. People of will bid the BJP farewell in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections,” Abdul Khaleque said.
