The severed legs of an unidentified woman were found dumped in a drain near the flyover at Khanapara in Guwahati on Saturday morning.

The severed feet were wrapped in polythene, which was spotted by garbage collectors.

Police from Basistha police station rushed to the spot and rescued the body part of the woman.

Suspecting it to be a case of murder, police have launched a search operation in adjoining areas.

According to the police, only after the post-mortem examination, the body part could be identified–either male or female.

However, the legs can be considered as part of a woman’s body, said a police official.

The official said that someone appeared to have tried to dispose of the body after cutting it into pieces two-three days back.

The limbs have been sent for postmortem examination to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
