Ace boxer Mary Kom will make her competitive debut in the 51 kg category in the Indian Open Boxing Championship to be held at Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.

Mary who had decided to give Asian Boxing Championship a miss this time to focus on the world championships and Olympic qualification is all geared up to showcase her amazing talent at the international boxing tournament to be held from May 20 to May 24.

Assam boxers Shiva Thapa and Ankushita Boro will compete in the 60 kg and 64 categories respectively and is all ready to impress the people of the home state with their performance.

Boxers Bhagyabati Kachari and Lovlina Borgohain of Assam are also expected to take part in the event.

The tournament will witness the participation of 35 men and 37 women boxers from India.

Apart from Indian boxers, around 200 pugilists from 16 boxing powerhouses will also compete in the 70000 dollar tournament.

Assam Boxing Association (ABA) in cooperation with the state government is already hurrying up with the preparations for the upcoming tournament.

It may be mentioned that the AIBA Youth Women’s World Boxing Championship was held from November 19, 2017 to November 26, 2017 in Guwahati.

A number of Indian women boxers performed brilliantly in that tournament.

The Indian Open Boxing Championship will be a good platform for the Indian boxers to further spread their wings before the Tokyo Olympics scheduled to be held next year.
