The people of Assam will be able to witness six time world champion Mary Kom, Assam’s star boxer Shiva Thapa and many other national and international boxers in an international boxing tournament scheduled to be held in Guwahati.

The Indian Open Boxing Championship will be held from May 20 to May 24 in Guwahati.

This was informed by the general secretary of Assam Boxing Association (ABA) Hemanta Kalita.

The five day boxing tournament is to be held at Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.

Kalita informed that in addition to the Indian boxers, several international boxers from 25 countries are expected to take part in the tournament.

Indian boxers such as Mary Kom, Shiva Thapa, Lovlina Borgohain and several others are to participate in the Championships.

ABA in cooperation with the state government is already hurrying up with the preparations for the upcoming tournament.

It may be mentioned that the AIBA Youth Women’s World Boxing Championship was held from November 19, 2017 to November 26, 2017 in Guwahati.

A number of Indian women boxers performed brilliantly in that tournament.

The Indian Open Boxing Championship will be a good platform for the Indian boxers to further spread their wings before the Tokyo Olympics scheduled to be held next year.
