Mangaldai Bar Association

The Mangaldai Bar Association has requested the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court to ensure normal functioning of lower courts in Darrang district of Assam.

The lawyers expressed their unhappiness over non-functioning of the Darrang district judicial courts since March 17 because of COVID19 pandemic.

The lawyers’ body approached the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, and submitted a memorandum and expressed their grievance.

In the petition they made an appeal before the Chief Justice to take necessary step for normal functioning of the lower courts and prosecutors at the earliest.

The lawyers association of Darrang district pointed out that the normal activities of the court has remained suspended while other government institutions are running smoothly with hundred percent attendance since June.

The lawyers claimed because of the restrictions in the lower courts, thousands of cases are now pending, and people are being denied justice because of the delay.

They said even schools and colleges in the state have been reopened, and there was no reason for the lower courts to function in such a guarded manner.

The members of Mangaldai Bar Association said normal functioning of the lower courts should not be a problem because the pandemic situation in Assam is totally under control.

The lawyers said Assam government figures showed a remarkable improvement in the pandemic situation in the state with 97.45 recovery rate and hardly 0.45 mortality rates.

The delegation of Mangaldai Bar Association was led by Madhab Chandra Rajbongshi and Hemanta Kumar Sarma.
