Former Guwahati Press Club (GPC) general secretary Nava Thaluria has approached the Gauhati High Court (GHC), seeking its intervention to stall the GPC election.

GPC election is scheduled on March 12 and candidates contesting at various posts have already begun campaigning.

Thakuria has filed a case against the interim GPC committee, the election committee, and the presiding officer at the GHC.

In his complaint, Thakuria had alleged that the voters’ list prepared by the GPC for the elections is illegal.

“Journalists from the electronic media cannot become GPC general members,” Thakuria alleged.

The Court will her to Thakuria’s petition on March 11.

GPC election was not held for the last 18 years and Thakuria has been the general secretary for all these years.
