Internal feud within Assam BJP seems to be on the rise over the saffron party’s CM candidate.

A faction in the Assam BJP are supporting Sarbananda Sonowal to continue as the Chief Minister of Assam, if the BJP-led alliance retains power.

On the other hand, another faction in Assam BJP are proposing State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the next Assam CM.

The internal ‘feud’ came to fore following a media briefing by Assam BJP leader by Pranab Baruah.

Briefing the media on Tuesday, Assam BJP leader Pranab Baruah demanded for portraying Himanta Biswa Sarma as the saffron party’s CM candidate.

“I demand Himanta Biswa Sarma be named as BJP’s CM candidate in Assam,” said Pranab Baruah.

“BJP is a national party. The decision would be taken by the party’s central leadership,” said CM Sarbananda Sonowal after filing his nomination from Majuli constituency on Tuesday.

On the other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “We need to be patient. The decision would be taken by the BJP’s central leadership. We in Assam cannot say what the decision would be,”
