On the other hand, another faction in Assam BJP are proposing State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the next Assam CM.
The internal ‘feud’ came to fore following a media briefing by Assam BJP leader by Pranab Baruah.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, Assam BJP leader Pranab Baruah demanded for portraying Himanta Biswa Sarma as the saffron party’s CM candidate.

“I demand Himanta Biswa Sarma be named as BJP’s CM candidate in Assam,” said Pranab Baruah.

Meanwhile, both Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have been maintaining that the decision of BJP’s CM candidate lies with the party’s central leadership.
“BJP is a national party. The decision would be taken by the party’s central leadership,” said CM Sarbananda Sonowal after filing his nomination from Majuli constituency on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “We need to be patient. The decision would be taken by the BJP’s central leadership. We in Assam cannot say what the decision would be,”

Meanwhile, DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh also tried to downplay the speculations doing the rounds that Himanta Biswa Sarma may replace Sarbananda Sonowal as CM of Assam, if BJP retains power.
“Decision on next Assam CM would be made when the time is right. Now is not the time,” said DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh.
