Former Assam Minister and senior Congress leader Rakibul Hussain on Tuesday filed his nomination from Samuguri constituency.

Rakibul Hussain submitted his nomination papers before the Returning Officer at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Nagaon.

Rakibul Hussain was accompanied by top Assam Congress leaders for nomination filing on Tuesday.

Lok Sabha MPs – Gaurav Gogoi and Pradyut Bordoloi and Assam Congress Chief Ripun Bora accompanied Rakibul Hussain for nomination filing.

The Assam Congress took out a massive rally prior to the nomination filing of Rakibul Hussain from Samuguri constituency.

“We are ready to usher in a new future for Assam, one defined by peace and prosperity,” said Rakibul Hussain after filing his nomination.

A sea of people accompanied Rakibul Hussain on his way to the office of the Returning Officer for nomination filing.

“The outpouring of love by people to Rakibul Hussain was evident in the turnout during his nomination filing at Nagaon,” said Gaurav Gogoi.

Tuesday was the last day of filing nomination for the first phase of Assam Assembly elections.

First phase of Assam Assembly elections is slated to be held on March 27.
