The rescued children were put under the care of a children home.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri said such drive against child labour will continue to put an end to child labour in the district. “I request the people to report about the engaging of child labourers as domestic help or in other works. We want the support from public to end child labour in the district,” she said.

Recently the district administration had constituted a task force consisting of community leaders, anganwadi workers, social activists, NGOs, village defence parties, village headmen, locals and the police to tackle the issue of child labourers.

Significantly, few days ago, four child labourers were rescued from different areas of the district.

According to the Labour Department, majority of the child labourers in Dibrugarh district are employed in brick kilns, factories, stone quarries, hotels, dhabas, shops, restaurants and tea gardens. Some of them are also engaged as domestic helps and vegetable sellers.
