The Dibrugarh University unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) along with several other organisations on Tuesday evening took out a protest rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 here.

The students of Dibrugarh University also announced ban on the entry of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with the BJP and RSS in the University campus.

The protesters holding placards and banners started the rally from Dibrugarh University marching through the main roads of Dibrugarh town.

“We are against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 because it is against the people of Assam. We strongly oppose the Bill as the BJP-led Central government is trying to provide citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis,” said David Hazarika, General Secretary of Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students’ Union (DUPGSU).
