The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked a sepoy of the Likabali-based Army Supply Corps who allegedly collected huge amount of funds from innocent people on the pretext of giving them government jobs.

The case was handed over to the central investigating agency by the Indian Army which found sufficient evidence against sepoy Vijay Kumar Gupta and one of his associates Achinta Ghora after a court of inquiry.

Gupta was maintaining five different accounts and transactions worth over Rs 1 crore was detected by the army court of inquiry.

“Gupta scouted for job seekers in collusion with touts and introduced them to civilian agents and acted as a conduit for routing bribe money,” the army’s complaint letter to the CBI said.

The Indian Army suspects that Gupta could be part of a larger racket managed by unknown touts and hence sought a CBI inquiry into the case.

The army also sought an investigation of the money trail.

The scam came to light after a woman lodged a written complaint with top Army officials alleging that Gupta has taken Rs 1.5 lakh from her for arranging a job for her son.
