“Samrit had fled to Guwahati but he was caught when returning near the Pulibor Police Station,” Das said.
Das further said that Samrit had confessed to these acts of masturbating. He said that he did not have any control over himself when he was overcome by this urge.
Police said that they had come to know of these incidents after video clips were uploaded on Facebook.
Amar Kalita, SFI, Jorhat district unit secretary had also lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday afternoon after coming to know of these videos from his friend and SFI member, Abhinav Bharali. Abhinav had uploaded the video clips on Facebook on behalf of the girls of the hostel, who did not want to be identified.
Das said that it would have been better if the girls had come directly to the police and confidentially submitted a complaint. It would have been easier if they had also noted the license plate number, he said.
In view of this incident, he further requested the owners of all girls’ hostels to install CCTV cameras and provide security to the girls without fail.
“Installation of one or two CCTV cameras should be made mandatory in all girls’ hostels. Professional security men should also be employed,” Das said.
Das further said that with Samrit’s arrest they could now investigate a few more such cases which had come to light in the past year or so.
