The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) led by former Rajya Sabha MP on Tuesday made their stand clear that the party will go alone in the forthcoming parliamentary elections slated to be held in 2019.

The party has decided to contest in at least two Lok Sabha constituencies and will support the like-minded parties in two other constituencies where they have stronghold.

The president of the UPPL, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the open session of the 1st triennial conference of the UPPL held at Maidangshree Nwgwr, Banargaon in Kokrjahar district, on Tuesday, said, “Our party will field its own candidates in two constituencies – Kokrajhar and Mangaldai.”

He also said, “UPPL will also extend support to the like-minded party candidates in Guwahati and Tezpur Lok Sabha constituencies.”

Brahma also said independent candidate Naba Kr Sarania won the Kokrajhar ST Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 elections with the support of the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other parties with the O-Boro slogan. In the last Lok Sabha polls, UG Brahma stood second.

“Today, the support base of Sarania has broken while the BJP and the Congress have decided to field their own candidates in the forthcoming election,” said Brahma adding, “Our party has clear hope to win both the seats.”

Brahma said the UPPL had no electioneering understanding with any party in the State and it will go alone.

He said the party has decided to go ahead with its supporters.

He alleged, “There are lots of corruption in BTC where the ruling BPF leaders are involved.”

The former Rajya Sabha MP also said the UPPL has been fighting against rampant corruption in BTC.

He said, “The people of the region want a change in the region and the UPPL being pro-people party will work for the welfare of the common people of the region.”

Brahma also said his party will root out corruption in BTC. he added, “The corrupt people in BTC and the State have faced difficulties due to UPPL which has sought details of every project.”

The open session of the UPPL, which was chaired by the president of the party, UG Brahma, was also addressed by ex-MLA Hitesh Basumatary.

He said the BPF has crossed the limit of corruption in BTC and the time has come to teach them a lesson. He said he came out of the BPF due to rampant corruption and lack of discipline in the party.

He also called upon the people to stand up against the ruling BPF in BTC region and the BJP in the State saying that they have miserably failed in all fronts.

The meeting was also addressed by the opposition leader in BTC, Rwngwra Narzary, Gun Gogoi, president of Liberal Democratic Party, Pratibha Brahma, vice president of the party and others.

In the morning, UG Brahma hoisted the organizational flag while vice president Pratibha Brahma paying rich floral tribute to the martyrs of the party and BTC MCLA Jiron Basumatary offered floral tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

The 1st triennial conference of the UPPL was attended by over five thousand delegates and the open session was also attended by a huge crowd.
