On the third day of 2022, Assam has witnessed a double hike in the number of COVID-19 cases with 351 cases reported.

As per Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, the total number of cases reported in the state was 351 out of 36,613 tests.

The overall positivity percentage stood below 1 percent with 0.96%.

The number of deaths recorded was two while the recovery rate stood at 98.63%.

Kamrup Metro which mostly comprises of the Guwahati city also saw a double hike with the total cases being recorded at 164 as compared to 78 cases on the previous day.

It may be mentioned that the Assam Government started the vaccination drive for students and children of the 15-18 age group from Monday.

Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that the drive is to ensure that all children of the age group 15-18 get vaccinated as soon as possible.

He also said that Assam was prepared for COVID-19 and even Omicron as the state already has 9000 beds prepared.

Of the 9000, the government has kept 1000 ICU beds while 2600 are dedicated oxygen beds.

New SOPs might also be announced if the state records any cases of Omicron.
