The police in the Kamrup district took a different approach against traffic violators by felicitating them with a gamusa instead of just fining them.

The police in the past few weeks have come down heavily against traffic violators and various drives have been initiated to prevent such violations.

Among the violations, not wearing helmets by motorcyclists has been a major issue and despite campaigns and awareness on the necessity of helmets, people continue to break the rules.

The Assam Police in the past few weeks have started a massive campaign to create awareness on helmets in the state.

Fines worth lakhs of rupees were also realized but instances of violations continued.

To curb out these, the police in the Kamrup district’s Baihata Chariali have come out with a different approach.

The police are now distributing gamusa to the violators and are requesting them to wear helmets.

The Assam Government recently had made helmets for both the rider and the pillion compulsory.

Following up on this directly, the police have initiated a drive to decrease the instances of violations related to traffic rules.
