A pachyderm was found dead at Kheroni in West Karbi Anglong on Friday.

Reports stated that the tusker’s body was found in Sengseng Beel near Kheroni in a sugarcane plantation.

A herd of wild elephants entered the area full of human habitation. It is reported that the tusker died after consuming some poisonous food.

In yet another incident at Rangjuli, a herd of wild elephants damaged many houses after going berserk. There is “huge” man-elephant conflict in the Karbi Anglong area.

The villagers have come down heavily on the district administration and the Forest Department for their “care-a-hoot” attitude towards the whole problem.
