AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam said that BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia has a lack of knowledge after Saikia had demanded Hindus to be declared as minorities in some districts of Assam.
Speaking to the media, Islam who is Mankachar’s legislator said, “Yes, it is true that in some districts the population of Muslims is more than the Hindus. But, the term minority is defined by the constitution.”
He added as per the constitution, even Kashmir is a minority state despite the population of Muslims being around 95 percent.

He said that in terms of numbers there are some districts, the Hindus are a minority but that is only in terms of population and not treatment.
“Mrinal Saikia’s statement reveals that he has a lack of knowledge”, he added.

The Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) are considered as minorities in India.
