A woman has spotted a leopard at the Jalan Nagar Tea Estate in Dibrugarh while she was passing by the area.

The woman clicked a photo of the leopard after spotting it on Tuesday, which has gone viral on various social media platforms.

โ€œLeopards generally stray into tea garden areas in search of food. The forest department was informed about the matter,โ€ said a resident of Dibrugarh.

Due to shrinking forest covers, leopards often stray into to human settlement in search of food.

โ€œFor the past few years we have been spotting a leopard in the same location. The leopard took away the dogs from one of my neighboursโ€™ house,โ€ said Arijit Dasgupta, a resident of Jalan Nagar area.

โ€œAbout three years back a black panther was spotted in the Jalan Nagar Tea Estate, after which it was never again seen,โ€ he added.

A forest official said, โ€œThe local residents informed us about the leopard and we are trying to locate and tranquilize the animal.โ€
