Earning some quick bucks by selling illegal liquor during the festive season has become the order of the day.
A section of unscrupulous traders of Darrang district in indulge in illegal selling, hoarding and transportation of IMFL during the days of mega festivals like the Durga Puja taking opportunity of its increased demand.
However, this time such illicit practice under the strict vigilance followed by successful raids in suspected pockets has suffered a major setback.
In one such successful raid carried out at Kharupetia area of the town on Wednesday night, a huge consignment of illicit IMFL was seized while one person has been arrested.
Darrang Superintendent of Police (SP), Sreejith T informed media that in the raid led by officer in charge of Kharupetia police station, sub inspector Chandan Goswami and well supported by DSP (HQ) Amit Kr Hojai and sub inspector K K Laskar, as many as 378 numbers of bottles filled with various brands of IMFL have been seized.
One 24 years old youth namely Pranjit Sankar of Ward No 4, Tilapatti area of Kharupetia town has also been apprehended in the raid.
Later, the accused and the seized IMFL were handed over to the local staff of the Excise Department, the SP added.
