In the run-up to the second phase of Lok Sabha polls, a grenade was thrown at a 407 truck in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.
Unknown miscreants threw the grenade at the truck at Bakalia under Bakalia police station in Karbi Anglong district at around 7:40 in the evening.
The truck was parked on the National Highway 36 near the residence of the owner.
The stretch of the road has no street light.
It may be recalled that a little-known insurgent organisation, Dimasa National Liberation Army (GNLA) has called for a 36-hour bandh in Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts starting from 5 pm on Wednesday.
In Karbi Anglong, People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), led by former NDFB chief Songjit Ingti Kathar is active for the last two years.
Karbi Anglong has a history of forming insurgent organisations just before an election and interfering in campaigning.
In the general elections of 2014 when the BJP was in the opposition, the United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) was formed in Karbi Anglong led by Nikunja Kathar, a former mid-level leader of now disbanded United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS).
The UPLA went on to intimidate BJP supporters in West Karbi Anglong by firing at the vehicles of BJP supporters who were on their way to BJP meeting that was addressed by now chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Baithalangso.
The Autonomous District Lok Sabha constituency, which includes Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts, will go to polls in second phase on Thursday.
