Two young engineers from Assam have developed mobile app named ‘Parking Rhino’ to address car parking problems in the Northeastern region.

The app will manage both on-street and off-street parking in Guwahati. Other towns of Assam which will be managed by the app are Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Tezpur, by providing real-time information to drivers.

Tridib Konwar and Mriganka Deka, of Assam Engineering College, secured seed funds from Numaligarh Refinery Limited’s ‘Ideation’ programme last year and they were able to launch their operation in Guwahati.

The app is currently serving 15 cities in India along with two cities in Philippines with plans to launch the app in a few South-East Asian countries in future.

Parking Rhino is likely to cover more than 50 GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) parking locations in Guwahati-Shillong Road and Zoo road in the next few months.

The founders, bogged by inefficient system of parking in Bengaluru had launched the app in 2016, reports Financial Express.

The focus shifted to Northeast after Assam-based Numaligarh Refinery Limited had launched ‘Ideation’ to promote start-ups in northeast and selected ParkingRhino along with two other firms for funding their projects.
