Deplorable road conditions in Majuli, the river island district of Assam have made the life of the locals miserable.

Notably, the roads of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s home constituency are is such a state that one visiting the river island district will wonder whether these are roads or paddy field and ponds.

The busiest road leading to the Kamalabari ghat is in such a state that thousands who ply on that road have a harrowing experience almost daily as this is the only road for the people of Majuli to go out to the outside world.

The road is full of potholes and mud accumulated because of the on-going monsoon season leads to severe traffic snarls as passenger buses and other vehicles get stuck for hours causing much inconvenience to the commuters.

Though the locals have repeatedly urged the concerned authorities to repair the road, but all their pleas seem to fall on deaf ears.

The incessant rain has made things worst for the people.

People shuttling to and from the ferry ghat are subjected to severe inconvenience because of the deplorable condition of the road.

Now, the locals have issued an ultimatum to the district administration to repair the two km stretch of the road from Kamalabari to the south end at the earliest for the convenience of the commuters.
