Dibrugarh: Pohor, a child therapy centre dedicated to support specially abled children was inaugurated at Milan Nagar in Assam’s Naharkatia on Sunday.
The centre was inaugurated by Naharkatia Municipal Board Chairperson, Pampi Saha, in the presence of several distinguished guests and community members.
Designed to provide specialized care and developmental support, the centre will offer services such as special education, behavioural analysis, speech therapy, and other therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing the overall growth and development of children with special needs.
Kiran Rajkumari, Social Auditor of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), spoke at the inaugural programme explaining the objectives of the initiative and highlighted the importance of early intervention and specialized care in helping children realize their full potential.
Among those present at the event were Jayananda Baruah, retired Principal of Sasoni Higher Secondary School; Niranjan Saikia, Joint Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association and President of the Dibrugarh District Sports Association; Manas Jyoti Dutta, President of the Dibrugarh Press Club and Working President of the Dibrugarh District Sports Association; Vice-President Imdad Ahmed; Mamun Gogoi Mitra, President of the Dibrugarh Mahila Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party; and Purabi Hazarika, Ward Commissioner of Naharkatia Ward No. 1.
The invited guests congratulated the management committee for establishing a much-needed facility for specially-abled children in Naharkatia. They expressed confidence that the centre would play a significant role in creating a supportive environment for children and help them develop into productive members of the society.
It was also mentioned, that the centre will be supervised by Kiran Rajkumari and Dimpi Sonowal, who will oversee its day-to-day functioning and therapeutic programmes.
The inauguration of โPohorโ marks an important step towards strengthening inclusive care and developmental support services for children with special needs in the Naharkatia region.
