Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Saturday, on June 20, conducted a review of 11 ongoing medical college and hospital projects across the state, with emphasis on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and medical education.
The review was held at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati, where updates on ongoing construction works were presented.
Preparatory status of four proposed medical colleges and hospitals, yet to begin construction, was also reviewed.
The Chief Minister asked departments concerned to adhere to fixed timelines for completion of all projects.
Sarma said the government is focused on improving healthcare delivery through expanded access to modern and affordable medical facilities.
He called for continuous monitoring of project execution and directed the Director of Medical Education to carry out regular field inspections to track progress on site.
He further stated that sustained oversight would help speed up the implementation of key healthcare and medical education projects in the state.
The review meeting also examined the status of BSc Nursing and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) institutions.
The role of Project Management Consultants involved in upcoming medical infrastructure works was also discussed.
Sarma urged plantation activities within medical college campuses in coordination with the Forest Department, stating that such measures would support environmental conservation and improve campus conditions.
The meeting was attended by MLA Taranga Gogoi, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister K K Dwivedi, along with senior officials from the Medical Education and Research Department and the Public Works Department.
