Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi greeted the people of Assam on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu.

In his message to the people, the Governor said, “Bhogali Bihu is a festival of community feasting which symbolises affection and mutual respect.”

“The spontaneous celebrations of the Bhogali Bihu by people transcending all social barriers signify the spirit of unity amidst diversity,” he said.

He also said that the celebrations of Bhogali Bihu would strengthen the spirit of integrity, brotherhood and camaraderie amongst all the people irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or language.

Prof Mukhi also appealed to the people of Assam to strengthen their bond of unity and bonhomie by spreading the message of love and mutual reverence throughout the State, as an essential component of Bihu.

State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal also extended his greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu.

In a message Sonowal said, “Bhogali Bihu is the embodiment of abundance and mirth as the harvest festival provides an opportunity to the people of the State to strengthen the bond of harmony and brotherhood cutting across all divides.”

“May the fire of meji drive away all negative forces while bringing everlasting peace and prosperity to everyone’s lives,” he added.

Saying that the celebrations of Bhogali Bihu would bring the people of Brahmaputra and Barak Valley, plains and hills closer, Sonowal expressed optimism that this festival of merrymaking and joyousness would be able to cement age old ties between different communities and ethnicity of the State.

Industries and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary too extended warm greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of Magh Bihu.

In a message, the minister said, “The feast of uruka is an occasion to celebrate our rich socio-cultural heritage.”

“May the fire of meji illuminate our lives with new hopes and dreams,” he added.

“The Bhogali Bihu celebration will usher in aspiration for further progress and betterment of our society,” Patowary reiterated.

He also expressed the hope that the Bhogali Bihu celebration will further strengthen the long standing bondage of unity and harmony in our society.
