Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi who was on a one-day Bongaigaon visit on Wednesday, asked Deputy Commissioner Babulal Sarma to make Bongaigaon an ideal district of Assam with regards to swachhata and become a torch bearer for cleanliness.
On his maiden tour to the district, Prof Mukhi said that the largest ever cleanliness drive in the country launched under the initiative of Prime Minister Narenda Modi, has cleaned up majority areas of urban and rural India.

Though Bongaigaon district has done a lot with regard to cleanliness, it has to take a lead so that the district can claim to be a flag bearer of cleanliness in the State, he said.
The Governor visited the ITI College, Bongaigaon Polytechnic college and interacted with the principal and asked them to take lead in cleanliness.
He also interacted with the students and appealed to them to lend their hands towards maintaining cleanliness in and around their institutions as well as in the town.

Prof Mukhi also visited Bongaigaon Civil Hospital and interacted with the patients and took stock of their requirements.
Taking keen interests in patients’ amenities, Prof Mukhi asked the Superintendent of the hospital to make a provision of waiting room for the patients and issue entry pass so that only one attendant can enter the hospital to visit the inpatients.
He also inspected cleanliness in the hospital.
The Governor also made a visit to Birjhora HS School which has only science stream and asked the principal to start commerce stream soon.
Earlier, Prof Mukhi held a review meeting at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office with the district administration and heads of the departments and took stock of the status of implementation of several Central and State government schemes.
He also asked the Agriculture, Irrigation and other allied departments to work in perfect coordination and contribute to double farmers’ income by 2022.
He also reviewed the progress of Ujjwala scheme.
He also held meeting with the representatives of NGOs, literary bodies and other political organizations.
Prof Mukhi also held meeting with the security agencies at Bongaigaon Circuit House Conference hall and took stock of the prevailing law and order of the district.
Superintendent of Police of Bongaigaon, Hridayjit Barman and other senior officers of security agencies were present at the meeting.
