Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi took oath as the Governor of Manipur on Wednesday afternoon at the Raj Bhawan in Imphal.
Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, Justice N Kotiswar Singh administered the oath of office to him at a solemn function held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhawan in Imphal on Wednesday afternoon.

It may be noted that a communiqué made with Raj Bhawan, Assam from Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on April 27, where in it has been stated that the President of India by Articles 155 and 160 of the Constitution of India, appointed Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam to discharge the functions of the Governor of Manipur with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office, during the absence on leave of Dr Najma A Heptulla.
The charge of Manipur will be in addition to his present charge as the Governor of Assam.
Dr Heptulla has left for the United States to attend her grandson’s graduation.
Prof Mukhi will be the sixth Governor of Manipur since May 2014, when NDA came to power.
It may be mentioned that Prof Jagdish Mukhi, a veteran leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former MLA from Janak Puri Assembly constituency in Delhi was sworn in as Governor of Assam on October 10, 2017.
On the other hand Governor Dr Najma Heptulla who was the the longest serving Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha since 1985, was sworn in as Governor of Manipur on August 21, 2016.
