Security agencies in Assam including police, Border Security Force (BSF), Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Railway Protection Force (RPF) along with other central forces are gearing up for the Assam Assembly Elections scheduled to be held during March-April this year.

With not much time left for holding of the Assembly Elections in Assam, a crucial meeting of the security agencies in the State was held at the office of the Director General of Assam Police (DGP), Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta in Guwahati late on Thursday evening.

The meeting, chaired by DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, was attended by Additional DGP (Special Branch), Inspector General (CID) and top officials of the BSF, SSB, Assam Border Police, CRPF, RPF and GRF.

Discussions were held on the prevailing security scenario in the State and preparedness of the security agencies for the Assembly Elections.

Several key decisions were taken during the course of the meeting.

“There’s not much time left for the Assembly Elections. A meeting was convened to discuss the preparedness of the security agencies for the Elections in the Assam Police headquarters. Several key decisions were taken during the course of the meeting,” informed Assam Police DG Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

The elections to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly are likely to be held in March-April this year.

Political parties in the State have already started campaigning for the elections.
