Former Assam Director General of Police (DGP) SV Subramanian has passed away.

Former DGP Subramanian, who was an IPS officer of 1960 batch, breathed his last on Tuesday evening.

Subramanian served as the State Director General of Police (DGP) from July 1991 to April 1994 when Hiteswar Saikia was the chief minister of Assam for the second term.

Expressing deep condolence at the demise of the former DGP, Assam Police on its Twitter handle said: “We are saddened by the passing away of our former DGP, Shri S.V. Subramanian, IPS.”

Assam Police said Subramanian’s contributions to the police force will always be remembered.

“Shri Subramanian leaves a legacy of selfless service to the people of Assam. His contributions will always be remembered.”

“Our heartfelt condolences to his family & friends in this hour of grief,” Assam Police tweeted.

Additional DGP (Law and Order), Assam, SN Singh has also condoled the demise of the former DGP.

“Sjt SV Subramanian, IPS 1960 Batch, Former DGP @assampolice left for heavenly abode this afternoon. Rest in peace Sir,” Singh tweeted.

Former Assam chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Tuesday night tweeted: “Former DGP, Assam S.V. Subramanium passed away today evening.”

Former IAS officer Krishna has termed Subramanian as a “gentleman police officer”.

“He was a gentleman police officer and I had many occasions to interact with him during my early days! May he rest in peace!” Krishna said.
