Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Monday thanked Supreme Court judges Ranjan Gogoi and Rohinton Fali Nariman, State NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela and the full NRC team and especially Abhijit Sarma of Assam Public Works (APW) for whom the update process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) have become possible.

Addressing media persons at the Dispur Press Club on Monday after, Gogoi said no unwanted incident has happened till now ‘which is a sign of a matured community’.

He also said that the Supreme Court deserves 100 per cent credit for the entire exercise.

However, the firebrand peasants’ body leader and RTI activist had some words of criticism for Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Narendra Modi government at the Centre saying they ‘were doing conspiracy against NRC’.

Gogoi said that ‘those who were doing politics by taking advantage of illegal migrants now got the answer with the publication of NRC final draft’.

Now they have to ‘shut down their shops’, he added.

He also disclosed that the KMSS will organize a joint executive meeting soon with its other wings to decide the next plan regarding NRC.

Gogoi said that the KMSS will take ‘an important decision’0 for the greater interest of the people of the State.

He further appealed to the people of Assam who missed their names in the final draft of NRC to keep calm and maintain peace.
