Guwahati: A man affiliated with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) was arrested from Kamalpur in Kamrup, Assam on Sunday night for allegedly being involved in a theft case.

The apprehended person was identified as Anwar Khan.

According to reports, he is the advisor of the All Kamrup District Students’ Union.

He is accused of being involved in the theft of a mixer machine used for railway construction from Sorutari in Sonapur of Guwahati, Assam on November 7, 2024.

Following the alleged theft, a complaint was filed at the Sonapur Police Station by its registered owner.

The police during the investigation located the machine at a warehouse in Rangia.

On investigating the incident further, the police found out that the machine after being stolen was collected by Khan.

Hence, he was arrested and further investigation was initiated.

It was also reported that the AASU relieved Khan of all his responsibilities after the matter came to light.
