The Assam Government has designated 7 more cremation sites in Guwahati for the last rites of those who succumbed to COVID-19. 

The seven new cremation sites designated for COVID-19 victims are: Ulubari Electrical Crematorium, Basistha Cremation Ground, Bogthuli Cremation Ground in Panjabari, Jalukbari Cremation Ground, Garigaon KabarsthanJalukbari Kabarsthan, and Katahbari Kabarsthan.

Earlier, there were only four cremation sites in Guwahati for COVID-19 victims – the Ulubari Cremation ground, Bhootnath Cremation ground, Athgaon Kabarsthan and Islampur Kabarsthan. 

The number of cremation sites in Guwahati had to be increased by the Government as the city has been registering a high number of daily deaths in recent times.

Assam on Saturday had logged a total of 50 COVID-19 deaths. 

Of the 50 COVID-19 deaths reported in Assam, as many as 16 were reported from in and around Guwahati city. 

Assam’s COVID-19 death toll currently stands at 1628. 

Notably, Assam on Saturday had registered a total of 5756 new COVID-19 cases.

Of these 5756 cases, as many as 1543 cases were detected from in and around Guwahati city. 

Guwahati’s COVID-19 woes are on a steady rise with high spike in cases reported daily.
