“Won’t celebrate Rongali Bihu until CAA is scrapped,” said thousands of protesters who formed a 50-kilometre human chain on the Phillobari-Doomdooma-Jagun link road in Assam’s Tinsukia district while protesting against the Act.
The protest was called by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) across the state.
Among the protesters included family and friends of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation as well and included people from all walks of life.
Raising anti-CAA slogans the protesters said that the Act violates the Assam Accord and disrespects the sacrifices of 860 martyrs.
The centre of the protest was the Phillobari Tiniali market under Gabharubheti gaon panchayat of Kakopathar block and due to the protest, shops and other business establishments remained closed.
Secretary of Phillobari unit AASU Ashok Borsaikia informed that thousands of people joined the protests and held hands on both sides of the roads and staged the protest against CAA in a peaceful way.
