The 65th Filmfare Awards Ceremony scheduled to be held in Guwahati this month has been opposed by chief advisor of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya.

Attending the first day of Kalaguru Sangeet Mahotsav 2020 hosted by Zubeen Garg at Tangla H S playground in Tangla town of Assam’s Udalguri district on Friday, Bhattacharjya said the Filmfare Awards ceremony has been organized as a part of government’s attempt to divert people’s attention from anti-CAA agitation across Assam.

Expressing his resentment on the awards ceremony to be held on February 15 in Guwahati, Bhattacharjya said, “We are not against the artistes from Mumbai. But the matter to ponder over is that government has donated Rs 30 lakh to a private event and if required they will offer more donation.”

“Jyoti Prasad Agarwala was the first filmmaker of Assam. Has this organisation done anything for Jyoti Prasad? It is a question every common man is asking today” Bhattacharjya questioned.

He said that’s ‘good’ for us.

He said, ‘our protests are not against sports and culture or any Filmfare Award’.

“Some artistes have opposed it but it is uncalled for as we must not boycott such extravangza event because the Bollywood mega stars and others will never visit Assam if such events are not held,” he opined.
