A smart shower that lashed Guwahati on Sunday morning caused flash floods at several places the National Highway 37 at Khanapara and Ninth Mile area.

The entire stretch from Khanapara where long distance buses have an embarking stand till Ninth Mile of the highway was completely inundated with rain water and the overflowing water-logged drains on both sides.

Commuters who were having harrowing time blamed the concerned authorities for not cleaning the drains of garbage mainly plastic that caused the artificial flood on the highway and other areas of the city.

Artificial flooding of roads in Guwahati is not a new thing. Every year, during the time of monsoons, the residents of Guwahati go through much inconvenience because of flash floods after a heavy shower.
