Jhakaria, who is the son of Gobren Borgoyari of Lakriguri village, had a land boundary dispute with one 50-year-old Som Hasda alias Biji, son of late Barka Hasda of the same village for the last 4-5 years.
In the meantime, Jhakaria’s mother has been suffering from old age diseases for the last three months. His mother told him to beg pardon from the Adivasi person with whom they had a boundary dispute, police said.
Accordingly, Jhakaria went to Som Hasda on Friday and begged pardon for all the misunderstanding regarding the land dispute. He also requested Som to give some traditional medicine for his mother.
Som Hasda gave him some medicine and after applying the same, Jhakaria’s mother was screaming in pain. So, Jhakaria and his brother suspected Som of practising black magic and approached the Gaon Burha in the middle of the night to bring Som Hasda and resolve the issue.
The Gaon Burha, however, agreed to fix a meeting the next day and involve all leading villagers to resolve the issue.
Today (Saturday) at about 8-8:30 am, 7 to 8 Bodo youths of South Lakriguri village went to the northern side of the same village inhabited by Adivasi people to bring Som Hasda, son of late Barka Hasda suspecting him to be practising witch craft.
“The Gaon Burha informed the police and police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Later, a peace-cum-awareness meeting involving all leading villagers of both communities was convened by Additional SP(HQ), Kokrajhar at Saraibil BOP,” Kokrajhar Police stated.
“The situation is currently normal and under close watch,” the Kokrajhar Police added.
