Dhemaji MLA Dr Ranoj Pegu accompanied by Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu and host of government officials has launched Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (SVAYEM) Yojana in Dhemaji district of Assam on Thursday.

Addressing the occasion at Public Auditorium, MLA Dr Pegu highlighted the advantages of the ambitious youth welfare scheme and hoped that it would help the State’s youths for economic empower through various entrepreneurship activities. He also recalled various flagship schemes initiated by Sarbananda Sonowal led state government to boost socio- economic status of the poor and destitute.

Speaking the occasion, Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu urged the youths to avail the scheme benefits to enhance their economic strength through industrial activities.

The MLAs and other dignitaries distributed sanction letter (credit) to 260 selected beneficiaries under the youth empowerment scheme in the district.

The SVAYEM Yojana is a flagship programme for providing financial support to the youths of the state to take up income generating activities in the manufacturing, trading and service sector. It is being implemented in all the districts of Assam including autonomous district councils.

Under this Yojana, a loan of Rs one lakh will be given for new entrepreneurs and Rs two lakh for existing entrepreneurs. The number of beneficiaries in a district has been selected based on proportion to the population.

Among others, deputy commissioner Manabendra Pratap Singh, ADC Simanta Kr Das, assistant manager of Industry & Commerce Balin Shyam, district information and public relations officer Mandira Chayengia besides branch managers of SBI, UBI, AGVB of the district and Industry & Commerce department officials attended the programme.
