The students and teachers of Mangaldai Town Girls’ HS School, a premier secondary level institution of girl education in Darrang ceremonially greeted the newcomers of Class VI and XI of the school in its traditional way.
In this connection a function was organized in the school premises on Monday defying Bharat bandh.

The function was attended by several invited guests including revenue officer of Mangaldai Kamaljit Sharma, Inspector of Schools, Darrang, Nagen Ch Boro, faculty member of Mangaldai Girls’ College Sailen Saikia and senior media person Mayukh Goswami.
While addressing the newcomers, the speakers underlined the importance of inculcating qualities like positiveness, perseverance, hard working and self confidence among themselves to achieve success in academic career.
At the same time the speakers also stressed the need of developing human values like good manners, love and respect for others to look themselves beautiful from inside.

They cited several examples and stories relevant to their speeches including that of the new track sensation of the country and the pride of Assam, ‘Golden Girl’ Hima Das.
Meanwhile Amiya Dutta, principal of the institution from the chair, while lamenting over the sharp decline in the moral values among the new generations who even show disrespect towards their own parents, urged the students to become good human beings first.
Dutta told the students to earn knowledge rather than running after unhealthy competition of securing marks in the examinations.
During the day-long function, compeered by Gitamani Sharma, a teacher of the school, both old and new students including the general secretary of the students’ union, Ananya Mandal, greeted each other.
The colourful cultural presentations by the students and teachers of the institution added more flavour to the celebration.
Narmada Kakati, a teacher, greeted the freshers in style with recital of a self-composed poem on them. Earlier, the function began with a chorus written and composed by two former teachers of the school, Renu Bordoloi and Dipti Debi. The programme concluded with offer of refreshments to the newcomers by their senior counterparts.
