Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district in Assam, Dr S Lakhsmanan ordered a magisterial probe into the alleged leakage of National Register of Citizens’ PDF file within Silchar Sadar Circle which fell into wrong hands much before the declaration of the final draft of NRC on July 30 last.
Speaking to Northeast Now, he said, “A high level committee has been constituted in which one ACS officer along with two other Executive Magistrates has been deputed to carry out this task and get the necessary information within next 48 hours.”
Dr S Lakhsmanan added, “The district administration believes that one NSK within Silchar Sadar Circle might have leaked the information and we can round it up pretty soon.”
An FIR too has been lodged at Silchar Sadar Thana and since the case involves the use of hi-tech information technology, cyber crime laws too come into play, and can assist in its investigation.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a computer shop in Madhurband area of Silchar was raided and two personal computers, five pen drives, were seized and later sealed by the police party. The seized materials have been sent for forensic tests.
The shop named Raja Stores was of Raja Mazumder who is still absconding and the police have launched a manhunt for his arrest and further investigations.
Dr Lakhsmanan though when quizzed by the media, divulged that they are keeping a close watch on Number 30 NSK under Silchar Sadar Circle at Madhurband, for such a major goof up or a major crime.
