In Karbi Anglong, People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), led by former NDFB chief Songjit Ingti Kathar is active for the last two years.

In the general elections of 2014 when the BJP was in the opposition, the United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) was formed in Karbi Anglong led by Nikunja Kathar, a former mid-level leader of now disbanded United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS).

The UPLA went on to intimidate BJP supporters in West Karbi Anglong by firing at the vehicles of BJP supporters who were on their way to BJP meeting that was addressed by now chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Baithalangso.
