An one-day disaster management training was organized for the students of BOCW skill development trainers at Gargo Institute of Technology in Dibrugarh of eastern Assam on Wednesday.

Mohindeer Kumar, second in command of 171 CRPF talked about the importance of disaster management during a crisis situation. A slide presentation was showed to clear the concept of disaster management during the one-hour training to the students.

He said that the first people to respond to a disaster are those living in the local community. They are the first to start rescue and relief operations.

“Community participation can play an important role during a natural disaster. Awareness is very important because during disaster viz. natural calamity, earthquake, people get panicky and due to that maximum causality happens. Therefore, people should not panic during a crisis situation,” Kumar said.

He added, “If a person is trained in disaster management then he/she can know how to tackle during the crisis situation. So, everybody should know a little about disaster management to prevent an emergency situation,”.

“Our main objective is to provide training to our students on disaster management and how their skill will help them to rescue them/others during an emergency situation. In coming days, we will organize more such disaster management programme in our centers across upper Assam,” Pronob Khanikor, Upper Assam management in charge of BOCW skill development.
