The event, held in Pasighat, saw the launch of two unique varieties: Pijin Apong, made from the distinctive black rice known locally as Amkel, and Poro Apong, a fermented blend of rice and paddy husk ashes.

These locally produced beverages, now commercialized by Siang Beverage Pvt. Ltd., are a testament to the state’s rich cultural heritage and the growing potential of its indigenous products.

Oter Ering Tayeng, the visionary behind Siang Beverage Pvt. Ltd., expressed her pride in preserving the tradition of Adi Apong.

“The tribals of Arunachal Pradesh have been brewing Apong for generations,” she said. “It’s a beloved drink across the Northeast, offering not only taste but also nutritional benefits. By commercializing Apong, we aim to create employment opportunities for local brewers and youth.”

Deputy Chief Minister Mein lauded Tayeng’s efforts, stating, “I commend her for bringing forward such a refined product, showcasing the traditional rice wine of the Adis.”

He also announced plans to elevate Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse GI products to a national stage through a dedicated GI festival.
