With a spike of 66,732 positive cases and 816 deaths in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID19 tally crossed the 71 lakh-mark, taking the total to 71,20,538.

Of the total COVID19 positive cases registered in the country so far, 8,61,853 are still active.

A total of 61,49,535 people have been discharged from the hospitals or Covid care centres across the country after their recovery while 1,09,150 positive patients have lost the fight against the disease.

According to the data shared by the Union health ministry, the recovery rate stands at 86.36% while the death rate is 1.53%.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with a total of 15,28,226 positive cases including 40,349 deaths.

Maharashtra is followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

India conducted 9,94,851 COVID19 tests in a single day on Sunday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 8,78,72,093, according to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will work with its pre-pandemic strength from October 12 as its 12 benches with about 30 judges would assemble through videoconferencing daily.

Five benches of two to three judges in different combinations had been sitting on working days to hear around 20 cases daily since the COVID19 outbreak in March.

According to the website of the Supreme Court, 10 benches of two to three judges and two single judge Benches will sit daily from October 12 to hear cases.
