With a spike of 74,442 cases and 903 deaths in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID19 tally on Monday reached 66,23,816.

Despite the increase in the positive cases, India’s recovery rate stands at 84.34%, which is less than that of Chile where the recovery rate is 92% while the US with the highest COVID19 cases in the world has around 33% recovery rate.

As per the data from the Union health ministry, India’s death rate has come down to 1.55%.

Of the 20 worst affected nations, India has the lowest fatality rate, while Mexico has the highest mortality rate of 10.4%, followed by the UK at 8.8%, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Out of the total COVID19 positive cases in India, 9,34,427 are still active, 55,86,703 have been discharged, while 1,02,685 patients have lost the fight against the viral disease.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with a total of 14,43,409 positive cases, including 38,084 deaths.

Maharashtra is followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

India conducted 9,89,860 COVID19 tests in a single day on Sunday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 7,99,82,394, according to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

India exceeded the 140 tests per day per million population for COVID19 recommendation by World Health Organization (WHO) by nearly six times, the Union health ministry said on Monday.
