The samples of 71 inmates of the hostel of Regional Dental College in Guwahati tested negative for COVID19.
The samples of all the inmates of the girls’ hostel of the Regional Dental College, who are staying in the hostel, were tested for COVID19 after one of its inmates, Dr Dipa Deka, tested positive for the virus.
While Dr Deka, a second-year postgraduate student of the Regional Dental College, tested positive on Friday night, the samples of other inmates of the hostel were sent to the lab for test on Saturday.
Confirming the news of the hostel’s inmates testing negative, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday tweeted: “This is relief. After a res doctor was tested #COVID19 +, samples of 71 residents of Regional Dental College Hostel were taken and all are negative.”

Health minister Sarma also informed that two other resident doctors of the dental college, who were working with Dr Deka in the screening centre at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), also tested negative.
“Dr Sangeeta Nath & Dr Tribisha Kalita of Dental College, working with Dr Dipa Deka in triage sec of screening area also negative,” Sarma tweeted.

Dr Dipa Deka came into contact with Dr Lithikesh DS, a COVID19 patient and a postgraduate student of Gauhati Medical College (GMC) as they worked together in the screening centre at GMCH.
Dr Deka is currently undergoing treatment at Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) at Panbazar in Guwahati.
In an order on Saturday, the Kamrup Metro district administration declared the girls’ hostel of Regional Dental College in Guwahati as a containment zone after Dr Deka tested COVID19 positive.
