A solo photo exhibition titled ‘Frames: Myriad Images’ was inaugurated at Gauhati Artist’s Guild on Friday. It showcases over fifty photographs captured by bureaucrat and photographer Sanjib Gohain Baruah.

Dignitaries admiring the exhibits

“The camera is just the tool, it is the person behind the lens whose views, thoughts and way of life gets reflected in the photographs. Photography is an art form and Sanjib manifests his poetic vision through his photography,” eminent litterateur and journalist Homen Borgohain said during the inaugural session.

The multiple frames showcased the beauty of nature, the country side, wildlife and also the culture and tradition of the region.

“Photography gives me immense joy. It is one of the best mediums of expression,” photographer Sanjib Gohain Baruah shared. He further noted that with the advent of digital and social media, it has become easier to share one’s work with a larger network of people.

Sanjib Gohain Baruah is a person who dons many hats. He is currently the secretary, Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam. Yet that has not deterred him from pursuing his passion and creative pursuits.

“The advantage of my job is the field visits which allow me to pursue my passion,” the senior IAS official added. His journey with photography began while he was posted as the District Commissioner of Golaghat. While he was posted there, his visits to Kaziranga National Park gave him the opportunity to witness nature up close and he started capturing the vivid images through his photography.

Speaking at the inaugural session, celebrated writer Dr Harekrishna Deka said, “The photographer also has a responsibility because it keeps history alive. Photography, thus, has both artistic and historic value.”

Eminent sculptor-artist, Biren Singha pointed out how photography has become very popular not only among photographers but also among common people. Jayanta Dutta, award winning photographer also graced the event and highlighted the financial constraints that photographers face sometimes when it comes to exhibiting their works.

The exhibition will conclude on January 22 and is open for public from 2pm to 8 pm on all these days.
